BEST GALICIAN DOLMENS

New news, new topic, we bring you the five best Galician dolmens. Galicia is a region with a rich history, thanks to which various archaeological remains are found. The dólmens are megalithic constructions that consist of several slabs buried in a vertical position and with one or two more slabs supported as a cover. According to legend, there are great treasures buried beneath them. However, the general consensus is that they were related to funerary rites.

1- Dombate Dolmen:

This dolmen is known as the Galician Neolithic cathedral, as it is a mound 24 meters in diameter and 1.8 meters high. The dimensions of this dolmen is what allows it to bear this name. It is located in Cabana de Bergantiños.

2- Axeitos Dolmen:

Of the dolmens in Galicia, this is one of the most impressive and best preserved. It is located in A Coruña, especially in the parish of Oleiros. It is a prehistoric megalithic structure and is known as “La Pedra Do Mouro”.

3- Maus de Sala dolmens:

The Maus de Salas dolmens located in the municipality of Muiños in the province of Ourense is one of the notable ones for being a Neolithic architecture. The Casiña de Moura dates back to between 3,000 and 2,500 BC, when you cross the bridge over the Salas reservoir, you have access to the Casola do Foxo mound, which dates from the same time.

4- Meixoeiro Dolmen:

This is part of the dolmens of Galicia and is known by other names such as: Dolmen de Cela, Dolmen de San Cosme, Dolmen das Minas, Dolmen de San Colmado or mamoa de Meixoeiro. But in the end it is the same, although some tourists tend to get confused by the number of names.

5- Cabaleiros Dolmen:

This dolmen is known as Casa da Moura, Casa dos Mouros or Couza do Cacheiro, it is an Asset of Cultural Interest, Heritage of Spain and is property of the Provincial Council of La Coruña and a Historic-Artistic Monument since 2017.
